Noche 12 en Valladolid: La Tortilla

La Cena
 La Tortilla
Tortillas in Spain are much different than tortillas in the U.S. La Tortilla is a very traditional and easy Spanish dish.  Un Pincho de Tortilla (pincho = slice) is a common snack eaten between 10-12 for el almuerzo.  Sometimes bocadillos (sandwiches on baguette) have tortilla for a filling instead of ham or fish.
Recipe
Cut 4 medium potatoes (2 lbs) into small pieces, and cook on high in oil for about 5 minutes.  Continue cooking them on low for about 25 more minutes, or until cooked through. Can also add some chopped onion if you´d like.  Whisk 6-8 eggs in a bowl and pour them into the potatoes, stirring everything.  Let sit for about 5 minutes in the pan and then test it to see if it jiggles freely, the sign for flipping time.  You can flip it more if you want it more stiff.  Chón said she´s been making it for so many years that she just knows when it´s ready.

La Tortilla y Ensalada con Salmón
I smelled tortilla as I soon as I came in through the door after walking back from school in a sudden downpour.  Tortilla smells so comforting and delicious.  (The rain felt great after feeling so hot and sweaty all day in the high 90 F weather.)  There was a little leftover salmon from lunch that Rebecca and I split. I thought it went very nicely with the salad and it provided the perfect amount of color to the plate.

Dessert was fruit y yogur. Chón bought a few "peaches" that were orange and didn´t look like peaches to me. They tasted faintly of apricot in my opinión, with the skin of a peach and an interesting firm-soft texture.  Chón and I both had one and agreed they weren´t bad, but they definitely weren´t great.
