Sandía (watermelon) + piña (pineapple) + melón (cantaloupe) with the mango-yogurt mixture from the night before.
We ate our desayuno early today because school started at 8:30 instead of 9 due to an orientation introducing us to our teachers and the university.
Tamal con Pollo
The tamales were made the day before and purchased by Aurea at a mercado (small market) because she doesn't have time during the week to make tamales. One secret ingredient is manteca de cerdo (pork fat) because it provides the right texture and added flavor to the masa harina mixture. These tamales had a salsa made with chile verdes rajas (sliced green chiles), tomatoes, garlic, and onion, plus shredded chicken. This tamal definitely surpassed all other tamales I've had back home.
Hugo (Aurea's son-in-law) drove us to school today, but we'll have to take the bus or walk (if we allow sufficient time) hereafter. Instead of a garage, people have an enclosed courtyard for their car and patio. Thus, you have to carry a key for the very front door and one for the interior front door.
