Lobo Azul Café

We frequented Lobo Azul for the first week of my month-long study abroad in Oaxaca, Mexico partly because we could easily walk to school from here without getting lost.

Lobo = Wolf
Azul = Blue

This café had lots of patriotic art on the walls and rousing classical music to enhance the revolutionary theme.

 Lobo Azul gets their granos de café organicos (organic coffee beans) from the Chiapas area. These beans are then toasted and ground on site.

The beans on the right are called pergaminos (untoasted beans) & the ones on the left are tostadores (toasted beans).

Chiapas is home to an indigenous people group called the Zapatistas.

Lobo Azul had superb mochas. The secret behind their superior concoction was Oaxacan chocolate (cocoa beans ground with cinnamon sticks and unrefined brown sugar). In turn, the mochas weren't overly sweet and had a deep cocoa flavor, rather than an artificial chocolate flavor from chocolate syrup.

1st: a big spoonful of Oaxacan chocolate.

2nd: mix in the shot of espresso.
3rd: slowly pour in steamed milk and finish with a pretty design.

Steaming the milk.

I thought the coffee was a bit one note and kind of watery, but I LOVED the mug, which was from Guadalajara.
