Barcelona & Madrid, ES

After my month-long study abroad program ended in Valladolid, Spain, I rode the train to Barcelona with a few other Cal Poly girls.  Barcelona was SO different from Valladolid—much bigger and very touristy. Barcelona's population is 1.6 million, about half the size of Los Angeles, while Valladolid has close to 312,000 people.  My hostel Equity Point Centric was on Passeig de Gràcia, one street over from La Rambla de Catalunya (aka La Rambla).  La Rambla de Catalunya is the most famous of the 7 Ramblas which together form the famous main street of Barcelona, Las Ramblas.

My train arrived in Barcelona on Saturday afternoon, July 27th. I met a nice French guy named Jean at my hostel and we left for Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya around 5 since it's free after 3 pm every Saturday; it was on top of the famous Montjuïc hill.  I went to Baluard Bakery and the chocolatería, La Granja, with Jean as well.  I talked with quite a few nice Spanish people in Barcelona, and enjoyed seeing the famous Gaudí creations, Parc Güell, Sagrada Familia, Casa Mila, Casa Batlló.  I also had time to visit Museu Picasso, Parc de la Ciutadella, Parc Poblenou, Port Vell (Old Port), and Barri Gòtic (Gothic Quarter).  I left Barcelona by train on Tuesday afternoon, August 2nd, for Madrid, and then left for California on Thursday morning, August 4th.
